Let's make a difference in doing our Family History Work

Hi,

This blog is created so that anyone interested in Family History work can access it to gain tips, understanding, motivation, computer skills and shared knowledge about the subject.

It is proposed that family history consultants be the first ones to use this blog for their learning and sharing after which anyone interested to learn about Family History Work can access this blog for their guide and continued support.

Contributors will be added to this blog, who will most likely be the experienced family consultants, so that more useful postings can be added to this blog for others to benefit from. Anyone else can use the comments link to write their questions or thoughts which will be responded to.

Family Consultants have been requested to visit and participate in this blog often and in the recent leadership meeting, they are requested to sign in to say a few words by clicking the comments link found below.

Ok Here is where you can say hello and leave any questions or comments so that I or others can respond to when we visit here.

Once most of you have signed in here, I will begin the next posting to give you directions to the online training to PAF that is available from BYU and other support that you need through time. Let's see who is the first who can leave a comment here.

Well done and welcome Anthony! Now let's wait for the others to arrive. A note to others : Just type your words in the comment box and not worry about things which you don't understand like HTML tags etc. Also in choosing an identity, click at Other and type your name in the box(field) for Name. You can add your web page address if you have one, else just leave it blank. Last thing to do is click at 'Publish Your Comment' to send your message off. (You can also click 'Preview' to check first before clicking 'Publish Your Comment' as you cannot erase or change anything after it is sent.

Hey Josephine, great that you made it! Did your son help you to get the internet going and find this website by typing familyhistorywork.blogspot.com in a browser called Netscape or Internet Explorer? Make sure you can remember all the steps to know how to get in here because once you are here, you and the rest of the team will get guidance from me. I will guide you not just on how to do family history work but also on how to use computer technology that is very much used by family history work today. So what I'm saying is that the blessing you will get from this calling is spiritual and computer knowledge!

So what do you think about that? Keep the comments and dialogues here alive by checking on it often and leave your comments and questions.

For a start, I like all who have arrived in this site and who has read this comment from me to write a comment in my next posting which is about your personal goal.

Glad you could check in ok Cathy. We are expecting Malacca Branch Consultants to check in too. The beauty about online learning and communication is that you can do it at your own pace.

After some of you stretch your imagination and share your vision with us in the comment section of the April 29th posting, we will begin some instructions on the PAF Personal Ancestral File software.

Drop in whenever you can and feel free to leave any comments or questions you may have that you may want feedback on. We will experience online learning and sharing together!

Hi Susan,

Eventually, we will all overcome the technological complexities that seem to overwhelm us. Meanwhile keep coming to this website to learn more and together we can overcome all things!

Thanks for the reminder that family history consultants are still required to help man the Centre in as much as we have an online communication centre here. For those without computer access at home, the family history centre would be ideal place to practice your computer skills as well.

Hi Mei Ling,

Congrats! Glad you've finally made it too and I noticed you've registered yourself as a blogger too though that is not necessary. (Refer to the first comment to Anthony given above as to choosing the identity of 'other'?)

That will be useful later when you want to create your own blog containing perhaps your own journal or family history information. I will later look at the interest level of the group to consider giving all of you support on how to build your own personal blog.

For now, the priority is learning the Personal Ancestral File (PAF) software which we will begin very soon. If you read the directions at the top, just below the Family History Work heading, you are requested to respond with comments for every date's posting here starting from bottom up.

I need you and every other family consultant to do this as the exercise before I feel comfortable that all are able to go step by step in this website to receive further instructions. Read each date's posting request and respond accordingly with your thoughts and experience. Only through this way can we all be in the 'same page' and know we have not lost anyone, once the real lessons begin. Note that none has reached or responded to the third posting of May 24 yet while a few more has reached the Apr 16 posting. We are getting there eventually!

Yes Mei Ling. All family history consultants are encouraged to comment on every posting. The comment should relate to what they have just read in that particular posting so read carefully or read several times before responding especially if the post is long.

The format of the blog is such that older postings are below so always read from bottom up to see if you have missed any previous posting since the last that you read.

Dear Mei Ling,

Glad to see you're getting the hang of things here. What to do next? Please follow my encouragement and lead the way to comment on all the postings. Do read 2 Nephi 28:30 also.

By the way, I'm now in the USA, in Salt Lake City, for a week and will be back on July 4th but isn't it great that we can still keep in touch?

Hi Mei Ling,

Sorry but maybe it's my fault for not making it clearer. You don't have to comment on every other comment made unless you want to but more important is to comment on every posting I've made. Posting is the one on the main board where there are only 3 so far.

Try to get your last comment for the posting dated May 24 and you're done! To summarise, it's really only a minimum total of 3 comments required from everybody unless you really feel like addressing to someone else's comment which is not necessary.

I hope others can do the same too by this Sunday? Each will have his or her own challenges handling communication through this website but I can see progress when we really try. Don't worry about making mistakes!

Thanks everyone for your effort!

Great to hear your comments Siew Yin. It is amazing how much we learn through conversations and dialogues and the blog is a means of enabling this without actual physical contact.

This doesn't mean we don't need real meetings for contact but regular communication through here will save precious time in our real meetings. We can devote the future meetings for question answer sessions instead of loading you with lots of information that takes time to digest anyway.

Through this blog, it is hoped that participants will learn progressively at your own pace and give feedback as to where you are at. The initial feedback can be as simple as showing that you're present and keeping up. A little more communication skill is required to describe a technical problem you are facing in order to get advice from here. Just keep trying and not worry about negative consequences is always my advice as there isn't really anything negative to worry about. If it cannot be resolved here, we can talk on the phone. If that fails, we know what to cover in our actual meeting together.

Ohh remember, coming to this blog is not just to learn but you can help others too by sharing your experience and knowledge. Collectively, we will gain more knowledge by learning and sharing together so lets DO IT!
